What happens to items I donate?
Donated items are put up for sale in our network of Thrift Stores This makes affordable items available to people in the community and reduces waste. Most items not suitable for sale in the store are recycled or sold to those who deal in wholesale items, such as rag dealers, leather dealers and electronics scrap recovery businesses.
Those in dire need in Columbus, such as a family we assisted after they lost their home in a fire, are sent to the thrift store with vouchers for free merchandise.
The warehouse, where collection, sorting and distribution of items happens, is staffed by men who are enrolled in the Adult Rehabilitation Center. Their labor is part of a holistic program that includes work therapy. Money earned from the sale of items in the store funds the rehabilitation program, which includes a residential facility.
You may receive a receipt for your donation, but you must determine the value of the items yourself. Proceeds from the sale of donated goods fund our Adult Rehabilitation Center.
