Utility Assistance

Electric Bill:

Through a collarborative effort between The Salvation Army, Dollar Energy, and AEP, the Neighbor to Neighbor program is able to assist thousands of individuals with payment of their electric bill. The program began in 2009 and provides assistance to avoid shut-off or restore electric service. The program runs year round.

Please be advised that we recieve a high number of calls for assistance for this program. When calling the case worker, please leave one voice mail message and someone will return your call as soon as possible.

Who is eligible?

AEP customers who have been shut off or who have a termination notice who are at or below 200% of the poverty level. Applicants must have paid $150 toward their bill within the last 90 days and have a receipt of that payment. (This payment may not be from an agency or through a different assistance program.) Gas Bill:

Through a collaborative effort between The Salvation Army and Columbia Gas, the HeatShare program is able to assist thousands of individuals with payment of their natural gas bill.

HeatShare assistance has not yet begun for 2011.

The program has existed more than 20 years and provides each household up to $250 to maintain or restore gas services. The HeatShare program begins in summer after other utility bill assistance programs have ended.
