After School Learning Centers
Succeeding in school is often a struggle for children living in low-income communities. They face so many challenges in their day-to-day lives that completing homework and passing the proficiency test is not always a priority.
Yet, without a high school diploma, many will find it hard to succeed as adults. Our After School Learning Centers provide a safe environment for children to learn and interact with other students after school while improving their grades.
The Salvation Army Operates four After School Learning Centers that focus on academic achievement in the areas of math and reading. Program participants receive homework tutoring, proficiency test preparation, and personal development. Summer programming is also available.
Additionally, assistance is provided through a partnership with The Ohio State University. OSU students are given course credits for assisting with tutoring at one of our three After School Learning Centers for one quarter.
