A Letter from the Leadership

Dear Friends of The Army and community residents,

The Salvation Army is a faith-based charity designed to meet people at the point of need. The Army helps people in need through ministries and programs that bring hope. We offer long-term solutions to the problems of homelessness, drug addiction, low literacy, unemployment and poverty. We are in the business of changing lives--one person at a time.

For every dollar contributed, 85 cents goes directly to people, programs, and services. In 2005, the Army responded to more than 70,600 service needs and requests in Franklin County. And yet, there is still much more to be done.

Our goals in Columbus include:

  • Using our new facilities to provide effective outreach to people in need;
  • Offering quality, character-building programs for men, women, boys and girls in our Worship Centers;
  • Providing a safe, caring community environment for those who feel isolated or on the fringe;
  • Meeting basic human needs in order to improve the quality of lives;
  • Being good stewards of the donations given to The Salvation Army; and
  • Growing the Kingdom of God here in Columbus and inviting people to worship with us.

No doubt we face challenging days ahead. Yet, we know the sustaining power of The Salvation Army lies in faithfulness and obedience to the God-given call to serve OTHERS in His name without discrimination. With your continued commitment and support, we will make Columbus a different and better place—one life at a time, 365 days a year.

We thank the people of Greater Columbus for sharing our vision and helping us to sustain our mission. It is our on-going pledge to strengthen our communities and bring hope to those less fortunate by “doing the most good” every day!

God Bless You,

Majors Frank and Bonnie Kirk
