Letter from the Advisory Board Chair
Dear Friend & Fellow Central Ohio resident:
Those of us who live in Central Ohio are fortunate to have Salvation Army Worship and Service Centers located throughout the City that provide effective and efficient social services to those most in need, as well as spiritual support for the whole “self.” Not just during the holidays, but year-round, the Salvation Army provides life-changing programs designed to empower individuals.
Already during this decade not yet over, poverty in Columbus has increased from 14 percent to an alarming 20 percent. One in five Columbus residents lives in poverty. Now more than ever, our region needs the proven leadership of The Salvation Army, an organization with an impeccable reputation. In a published article in 2002, respected management expert, Peter Drucker, called the army, “by far the most effective organization in the U.S. No one even comes close to it in respect to clarity of mission, ability to innovate, measurable results, dedication and putting money to maximum use.” Former U.S. Senator, astronaut and long-time Salvation Army supporter, John Glenn, said recently, “The Salvation Army can do more good with a buck than any organization out there.”
The reasons The Salvation Army can leverage your donation so effectively are many: The organization is committed to good stewardship of the resources so generously entrusted to it by donors. This commitment represents an important part of the work culture within The Salvation Army. In addition, the “officers” who manage the operations of the Salvation Army Service Centers and Columbus Area Social Services are not highly paid administrators. They are highly educated ministers who have committed their lives to providing services to others in need without discrimination.
I invite you to learn more about the Salvation Army by visiting our website and by reading publications about the work of The Salvation Army in Greater Columbus. A great city is one that lifts up its struggling residents. Together we can change Columbus.
Sincerely,

Craig Mohre
