Family helped by The Army,
volunteers in Food Pantry

The Hatcher family is very involved with
The Salvation Army in Greater Columbus.
LeeEtta Hatcher and her four children attend
church services at the EastMainWorship
and Service Center, and the children attend
an after school program operated by Captains
Yuri and Lisa-Marie Harrington. LeeEtta
Hatcher has also used
the food pantry to help
with groceries.
“The Salvation Army
has changed my life in
many different ways,”
LeeEtta Hatcher says.
She and her four
children have been
inspired by the volunteers
they encounter
at The Salvation Army.
“They’re out there trying to help others that
are in need,” said LeeEtta Hatcher,“They
could be doing other things. They could be
dedicating their time for themselves.”
LeeEtta’s eldest son, Jeremiah, has been
volunteering regularly in the food pantry:
stocking shelves, assisting clients as they select
items according to food groups, bagging their
groceries and helping them to their cars.
“The Salvation Army has been helping my
family a lot, so I just
thought I should give
back for what they have
done by helping them
out with volunteering –
anything that I could
do,” he says.
“It’s been really great
here.”
Jeremiah says he feels he
is also learning valuable
job skills in the food
pantry that could translate into a job at a
grocery store.
