Columbus, Ohio Oct. 24, 2007– The Salvation Army in Greater Columbus kicked off its Red Kettle fundraising season by honoring corporations and individuals that help The Salvation Army provide vital programs to the community throughout the year.
Event: Need Knows No Season luncheon
Attendance: over 750
Amount raised: $300,000
Keynote Speaker: Gen. Paul A. Rader, retired international leader of The Salvation Army (the only such leader ever to have been from the United States.)
- Angela Pace presented an award to The Kroger Company
- Gov. Ted Strickland presented an award to Sen. John Glenn (Ret.), former U.S. Senator, Astronaut and American Hero. Glenn spoke touchingly about a holiday experience inspired by a Salvation Army bell ringer, and said, “My dad always said The Salvation Army could do more with a buck than any other organization.”
- John Wolfe presented an award to Don C. Fanta, a local businessman who has been indispensable to The Salvation Army in Greater Columbus and is a Member Emeritus of The Salvation Army National Advisory Board.
Without our partners and supporters in the Greater Columbus community, The Salvation Army could not continue to provide such services as After School Learning Centers, Choice Pantries, Career Enhancement Centers, Direct Housing, and assistance with utilities, transportation, rent, clothing and other basic needs, as well as opportunities for spiritual growth through our Worship Centers.
