Heart to Heart Weekend Meals

The Heart to Heart Weekend Meals program provides hot, nutritious meals to a poverty-stricken inner city community.  Our large mobile canteen is a kitchen on wheels that travels to four downtown locations every Saturday and Sunday evening delivering meals to over 200 people each weekend.

The Heart to Heart program employs only one full time staff member.  All other work is performed entirely by volunteers.  In addition, the mobile canteen can respond to local, regional and national disasters providing food and other needed items to disaster victims and personnel.

Chef Hartmut Handke, owner of Handke's Cuisine in the Brewery District, donates food to feed up to 200 people on several Sundays each year. Chef Handke is the only Certified Master Chef in Ohio and volunteers through the Dublin a.m. Rotary. "Being part of The Salvation Army Heart-to-Heart Mobile Canteen is a privilege," says Chef Handke. "All of us at Handke's Cuisine feel strongly about sharing where we can to those less fortunate than ourselves and contributing to the community."

Hours: The Canteen serves food at four downtown locations every Saturday and Sunday evening, year round.

Volunteers Needed! Volunteers are needed to prepare the meals at our Worthington Woods location near US-23 and I-270. To volunteer, please call Bob Mangrum at 614.846.1884.
