Utility Assistance

ELECTRIC GAS

Through a collaborative effort between The Salvation Army, Dollar Energy and AEP, the Neighbor To Neighbor program is able to assist thousands of individuals with payment of their electric bill.

The program began in 2009 and provides assistance to avoid shut-off or restore electric service. The program runs year-round.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor assistance AT THE SALVATION ARMY has been suspended until Jan. 1, 2010. Please contact First Link at 221-2255 to find another agency that offers this electric assistance program called Neighbor-to-Neighbor.

 

Through a collaborative effort between The Salvation Army and Columbia Gas, the HeatShare program is able to assist thousands of individuals with payment of their natural gas bill.

The program has existed more than 20 years and provides each household up to $250 to maintain or restore gas services. The HeatShare program begins in summer after other utility bill assistance programs have ended.

Who is eligible: AEP customers with a termination notice and an unpaid balance of $100 or more who are at or below 200% of the poverty level. Applicants must have paid $100 toward their bill within the last 90 days. Program applicants must apply in person at the Center for Worship and Service in their area. (Search for your zip code here)

HeatShare assistance has ended.

Who is eligible: Columbia Gas customers with a shut-off notice who are at or below 150% of the poverty level. Program applicants must apply by making an appointment with the case worker serving their area. (Search for your zip code here.)
